What's In It For Me?

  1. Ask your Group/Staff what they want before booking in any training/service
  2. Source Trainers/service and get what you want
  3. Accountability - makes purchasing much more cost effective
  4. Any 'Freebies'?
  1. It is pointless thinking you are doing your Group/Staff a 'favour' by deciding they need x topic or service.  Carry out a mini informal questionnaire and find out what they want.  Means more bums on seats and the Group have ownership of something they want.  Helps to gel a group with good communication and interraction.
  2. After deciding on the training or service that is required, source both by word of mouth and on line if required.  Meet or ring the resource and tell them exactly what you want to suit your Group needs: skills and knowledge etc.
  3. When using a Trainer, check their credentials - are they qualified to facilitate to your needs?  For example, I belong to ISMA - The International Stress Management Association which ensures my knowledge and skills and kept up to date or I wouldn't be a member.  I also have a Degree in Health and Social Care which ensures I have the expertise to deliver what I say I can.  Another very important criteria - does the Trainer have Public Liability Insurance - a responsible Trainer will have.  Knowing the Trainer has the skills and insurance cover makes 'purhcasing' their services much more cost effective.
  4. Any 'Freebies'?  Is the Trainer/Service able to provide hand-outs, other resources which will enhance learning?
  5. Voluntary groups have very limited funds so make sure you 'shop about' and get the best value for money'
