An estimated 3 million people are employed in the health & social care sector across the UK.  In Northern Ireland there are approximately 40,000 with one third working across statutory and criminal justice sectors and 27,000 in the voluntary and private sector.

Government requirements for employers expect modernisation and increased standards of care, across all sectors, for service users.  Employers are thus required to recruit, retain and develop the skills of their workforce and employees.
